God never leaves us alone, never forsakes us. In His mercy, He gives us other humans to fellowship with.
By His grace, He gave me a step father who does a much better job of modeling the Heavenly Father – earthly child design. With integrity and unconditional love, he accepted our family and did an excellent job of being a fill in parent and grandparent.
I have another friend who, though we do not talk often at all, has never forgotten me, never forgotten what happened to me, never given up on me. In my isolating, I have neglected many friendships which is highly out of character for me. Most that I have failed to contact have slipped away. Not this friend, every once in awhile I will get a text or a call out of the blue to let me know she is thinking about me, she loves me, or she ‘tells’ me it is time to get together again. I may never call her, may never offer her anything, and still she shows up in my life just to let me know she cares and I am loved.
I have also followed a few people who found me on Twitter, who are like this face to face friend who have so faithfully loved on me even when I can’t tweet, usually from lack of Internet, but often from being in a state of PTSD or depression. They bring me hope, healing, and a vision of God never giving up, always pursuing. I am thankful for their faithfulness in following God’s lead to go in the trenches and hold His children up. They help to restore me, my faith in God and man, and very importantly help fix the picture that I am not worth loving.
For those who might question my desire to be more like Christ by being more like peole who are great examples of Him, I offer these verses:
33 I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. ~1 Cor 10:33-11:1 NLT
God does provide visible, tangible, human examples for us to learn from…good and bad.
