A Time For Everything

A Time for Everything
1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

Two weeks ago my support group therapist suggested I read this passage in Ecclesiastes because I was experiencing a lot of anger over the violations that have intruded my life recently. On top of that I was uncomfortable feeling so much anger because we all know that as good Christians we are to forgive and let God have the revenge, therefore we don’t need to be angry. Right? (Yes, I am aware of righteous anger and the verses in the Bible supporting it.) The therapist said he was glad I was angry, it meant I was alive and present, having appropriate emotions. This was the time to be angry.

Well I forgot to look it up after I got home and God was not going to let me ignore the recommend. I was starting to understand that He was the One who wanted me to read the passage as it kept popping up randomly during the next several days. I even got a Facebook post on my page from someone who was comparing Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler to it. Gottta know when to hold ’em; know when to fold ’em; know when to walk away; know when to run. Yes, this was a time to laugh. God will use whatever it takes. Still in my mind I am thinking, every Christian knows this passage, I don’t really need to read it. I get it, it is okay to be angry right now.

Today, still having failed to pick up my Bible and read that passage, I opened a box that has been sealed for nearly six years. In the box were cards that I was saving for a special time to send. Evidently this was the special time that my Abba Father wanted to send a certain card to me which started out, “To everything there is a season.”

Not especially wanting the 2×4 that was destined to come next, I took a break and took out my Bible. Eccl 3:1-8 There is a time for every purpose under Heaven. Thinking God must have more of a message for me than this, I read on. Ecclesiastes 3:11(a)

He hath made everything beautiful in His time.

While I kick against Him like a child in need of a doctors’ healing hand, my Abba sends me His love and re-assurance that He sees my struggles, He feels my pain. If I allow Him, and I keep my eyes open, He will render this journey beautiful as well.

Now it was time to cry.

I firmly believe that tears are healing! May you continue to experience healing each and everyday….until the healing tears turn into tears of JOY.
